Edouard Pignon, Ostend, 1946-1953

From 18th May to 28th August 2017 at the Lyon’s Musée des Beaux-arts (Museum of Fine Arts)

Following the war, and a long stay in Collioure in southern France, painter Edouard Pignon moved to Ostend for several months during the winter of 1946-1947.

This subtle colourist left the sunny tones of the Mediterranean for the paler, greyer shades of Belgium, in an Ostend that had been partly destroyed by the war.

Seduced by the delicate beauty of the landscape, the colours and light, the swaying sails in the port, and the work of the fishermen in harsh, cold conditions, he produced a series of more realistic works, in which his work on movement was expressed.

The exhibition presents some 35 works, paintings, watercolours, drawings and vases by the artist.

Entry to the Musée des Beaux-arts and the exhibition is included in the Lyon City Card.
