Quais du Polar

From the 31st of March to the 2nd of April 2017.
Each year, in spring, Lyon becomes the world capital of the thriller.

A festival that celebrates the best of noir fiction! Not to be missed: each year the festival attracts around 100 internationally renowned authors of thrillers, detective stories and other novels that are liable to keep you up at night.

In addition to the meetings, book signing sessions and a pop-up library, it can seem as though the city has suddenly fallen into the grips of a crime frenzy, with a guided tour of Lyon's police school, exhibitions and more. For the film buffs among you, there's also a Film Noir Weekend (original language versions) at the Institut Lumière.

Throughout Lyon and beyond, activities, exhibitions and workshops on the theme of crime and the noir genre are held at museums and other cultural facilities.

Last, but definitely not least, there's the great criminal investigation that leads Sherlock Holmes wannabes across the city as they interact with actors to solve a crime. Another original way to see Lyon!

Fancy something unusual? Something thrilling? Intriguing novels and amazing encounters?

Be sure not to miss the Quais du Polar!

For the 13th edition in 2017:

This year, tribute is paid to Europe, from East to West, with famous guests such as Arnaldur Indriðason (Iceland), Victor Del Árbol (Spain), Philip Kerr and R.J. Ellory (Great-Britain), Val McDermid (Scotland), Barbara Abel (Belgium) or Gila Lustiger (Germany).

But there will be some American names too, the likes of Donna Leone, Ron Rash, Megan Abbott, or Qiu Xiaolong (China-USA), to name a few.

French authors will also be well represented, of course, with Sandrine Collette, DOA, Michel Bussi, Bernard Minier, Ian Manook, Henri Loevenbruck, Karine Giébel, Marcus Malte, Sire Cédric, or Olivier Truc...

This edition of Quais du Polar will be highlighting a number of major themes, such as gender, music, and the way in which real news stories are used in literature, as well as power and politics.

The spotlight is placed on film productions with partner cinemas Institut Lumière, Pathé and Comoedia.

The “suspense-tour” (La Grande Enquête) will take place on the 1st and 2nd of April, this year accompanied by an interactive game! It is free and open to all.

There will be more venues too, including the Lyon-Fourvière Gallo-Roman Museum (which is holding a murder party), the Confluences Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts (and its “artwork conversations”), as well as a number of libraries, for exhibitions, round tables and more.

A thrilling weekend is in store.
