From Wednesday 8 to Saturday 11 December, 2010.
Combining popular traditions with technological innovations, the Festival of Light (Fête des Lumières ) is a major event in Lyon!
This free and inclusive festival is open to all!
You cannot fail to be surprised and enchanted by the 60 or so "lighting scenes" created thanks to the fertile imaginations of designers from the world over.
The most spectacular creations are to be found in the town centre, while you can discover more intimate and participative scenes in the town's various districts…
The Festival of Light highlights the town's outstanding architectural heritage, its rivers and its main monuments through a combination of fantastic scenes making use of lighting, video and audio attractions.
The continuous lighting and video effects, visual arts and creative audio features combine to help you discover the town as you have never seen it before.
Plan your visit!
The event programme in the town centre is identical for all 4 evenings .
If you prefer to avoid the crowds at the end of the week, plan your stay for Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 December. This will give you the chance to attend the opening of the festivities on December 8 , when the festive lighting in Place Bellecour will be turned on.
You can plan your stay to suit your tastes and preferences, to ensure that your visit to Lyon is a success.
You'll find well-situated accommodation to help you get the most from your evenings and plenty of ideas for visits and leisure activities to occupy your days at Lyon Résa.
Choose either the Pack Only Lights including accommodation or activities and leisures without accommodation
The festival sites…
Don't miss:
The Presqu’île (Peninsula) , where the key sites for the Festival of Light are being recreated with bold artistic and technical designs.
The Tête d’Or Park offers you an incredible trail waiting to be explored.
At the Croix-Rousse, the Montée de la Grande Côte, a street from another age, brings you a look back at the early days of video games. Plenty of fun awaits!
And as the Festival of Light is also a generous and originally religious festival, the Foyer Notre Dame des Sans Abris homeless hostel will be the special guest for this 2010 event in Place Antonin Poncet with the Lumignons du Coeur initiative (Candles of Hope), backed by a large number of volunteers. The money raised will be donated entirely to the Association.
