From February 24th to July 15th , 2012, at the Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art (the “MAC”).
It’s all rock ‘n roll!
The MAC presents the first major retrospective on Robert Combas, a painter born in Lyon with a passion for rhythm. This is a highly original exhibition to be both seen and heard.
Displayed on the MAC’s three floors, a total of 600 works ranging from the 1970s till the present day will give you a good idea of an artist who rightly compares his painting to rock music!
To further emphasise this, he has combined his works with a soundtrack which should leave you in no doubt of where he’s coming from!
Highly colourful and illustrative, using bold black lines and words: some of the key characteristics of his work, which brings to mind comic strips, with more than a touch of humour, spirituality and even mysticism or violence.
The artist, who is also known as an ecological campaigner, has taken up residence for the spring at the MAC where he creates paintings and clips directly in an artistic and recording studio specially installed for the occasion, with rock musicians on hand for improv sessions.
Also, be sure not to miss: conferences, guided tours and meetings with the artist. All great opportunities to learn more about his work.
All in all, quite a fascinating experience!
Admission to the museum and the exhibition is free of charge with the Lyon City Card.
