Lyon is surrounded by forts, mostly built under Napoleon III.
Most do not visit, but some open their doors, converted into cultural or memorial spaces.

Fort de Bron

Built in the 1870s, the Fort de Bron is one of the most interesting and best-restored of the forts surrounding Lyon. A key part of the city’s heritage, it’s a historical, walking and leisure site.

Fort de Feyzin
Fort de Feyzin

The fort is one of the biggest built by Séré de Rivières at the end of the 19th century. It is the link between the fortified Vauban forts and the reinforced-concrete forts of the Maginot line. It belongs to Feyzin town hall.

Used by the Interior Ministry, the fort cannot be visited. It is the only fort with a rotating turret, a Mougin turret for two 155 L cannons. It covers 10 ha and was built in 1872 to the south-east of the square at an altitude of 210 m.

Located at the highest point in Francheville, the fort is nestled in the heart of a 10 hectares wooded site. It was built from 1878 to 1881 and is part of the Séré de Rivières system, named after its designer, also known as “Vauban de la Revanche”…

Built in 1895 at the highest point of the town, its 7 hectares (containing a water reservoir, amusement park and remembrance esplanade) have been public property since 1975. The fort is not occupied but cannot be visited.
