It was in 1863 that the Lyon-based architect Clair Tisseur (1827-1895, known under the pen name Nizier du Puitspelu, author of "Littré de la Grande Côte") began building the church on the site of Lyon's first racecourse.
Elle fut inaugurée le 17 mai 1869. Clair Tisseur a également construit la Mairie du 2° arr en 1875.
