The Wings Of The Opera

Today’s opera house stands on the site of an 18th century theatre, imagined by Soufflot and rebuilt in the 19th century by Chenavard et Pollet.

The Lyon National Opera, renovated by Jean Nouvel, was inaugurated in 1993.

With the same floor surface Jean Nouvel succeeded in tripling usable volumes by creating five levels underground and six levels beneath the glass dome.
