Built in 1972 on the vestiges of a Celestine monastery, the Célestins Theatre of Lyon has been the temple of theatrics and the dramatic performances. Along with the Comédie Française and the Théâtre de l'Odéon in Paris, the theatre boasts a 200 year history. Recently renovated, it is still a fine example of an Italian-styled theatre (857 places), the Célestins offers the public a wide variety of plays, ranging from classical repertory to contemporary creations.
