Built in the 15th and 16th centuries, St Nizier church is a fine example of flamboyant gothic architecture and constitutes as being one of the most beautiful religious buildings on the Presqu'île. In 177 the Christians of Lyon originally constructed the building to pay homage to the religious martyrs. Many years later the church served as the burial place for bishop Nizier, which in turn became the church's name. The municipal aldermen were instated here.
