Established in 1905, the Lyon Convention and Visitors Bureau was, in the beginning, a Tourist Information Office. It was originally located at 19 place Bellecour.
The Tourist Office moved to the center of place Bellecour in 1925, in a pavilion constructed in 1856 by architect Tony Desjardins. This pavilion was originally a military pavilion, used as a guardroom, then a police station before it took on its current form.
The Lyon Convention Bureau was created in 1986 to respond to a strong demand in business tourism.
Recently the two establishments were combined to create a single organization, which is dedicated not only to Lyon but also to its 55 surrounding communities (le Grand Lyon).
Given **** for the quality of its services, the Lyon Convention Bureau obtained AFNOR certification in November 1998.
In 2005, The Lyon Convention and Visitors Bureau has celebrated its Centenary.
